There's generally two different types of funds; the so called UCITS funds and special funds.
The greatest difference between the two groups is that there is more freedom of placement for special funds than what regular UCITS funds allow. A special fund can only be sold in Sweden if it is registered with the Financial Supervisory Authority, and is thus under their supervision.
We can then divide the funds further by category. Within the UCITS funds we find equity trusts, mixed funds, bond funds and index funds. There's also special funds to be found within the respective fund categories, but this is quite uncommon. All hedge funds are considered special funds.
